Welcome to Holly Springs

Holly Springs has transformed from a small, quiet town into one of the fastest-growing communities in the Triangle. Located in southern Wake County, it offers excellent schools, abundant parks and greenways, a growing downtown, and convenient access to Raleigh and Research Triangle Park.

Over the past 15–20 years, Holly Springs has seen significant residential and commercial development while still maintaining much of its small-town charm. It particularly attracts relocating families who want strong schools, newer housing options, and a community that feels family-friendly and well-planned.

From Quiet Crossroads to Growth Engine

Holly Springs was incorporated in 1876, though settlement in the area dates back much earlier. For most of the 20th century it remained a small, quiet community. As late as 1990 the population was still under 1,000 people.

The turning point came with basic infrastructure. A sewage plant in the late 1980s made larger-scale development possible. Through the 1990s and 2000s the town absorbed spillover growth from Cary and Apex and began attracting families seeking newer housing and strong schools in southern Wake County. Population climbed from roughly 900 in the early 1990s to more than 41,000 by 2020, with continued growth since.

Today Holly Springs is defined by that rapid but relatively well-managed growth. Master-planned communities, expanding parks and greenways, and major economic drivers such as the FujiFilm Diosynth Biotechnologies investment have made it one of the most watched submarkets in the Triangle.

Local Tip

Holly Springs has one of the highest concentrations of new construction in the Triangle. If you prefer modern floor plans, community amenities, and being part of a fast-growing town, this is one of the strongest options in southern Wake County.

Why Locals Love It

Longtime residents and newcomers alike often cite the same strengths: top-rated schools, beautiful parks and greenways, newer master-planned communities with excellent amenities, and a growing sense of community. Holly Springs has developed a reputation as a great place for families who want modern housing and strong schools without being too far from the urban core.

Local Perspective

Holly Springs has grown rapidly but has managed to preserve a family-oriented atmosphere. The combination of new construction, strong schools, and outdoor amenities makes it especially appealing to relocating families.

Fuji Biotech Expansion

One of the most significant economic developments in the region is the major expansion of FujiFilm Diosynth Biotechnologies. This multi-billion dollar biomanufacturing investment is expected to bring hundreds of high-paying jobs to the area, which will further increase housing demand in Holly Springs and surrounding southern Wake County communities over the coming years.

Potential Impacts: Strong upward pressure on housing demand due to job growth, increased need for schools and amenities, and continued investment in downtown and infrastructure.
