Welcome to Knightdale

Knightdale is one of eastern Wake County's primary growth towns. It attracts relocating families and first-time buyers who want newer housing, parks, and a more attainable price point than many closer-in Raleigh and western Wake locations — while still staying in Wake County.

The town's centerpiece is Knightdale Station Park, a large, well-designed public space that punches above the weight of many similarly sized suburbs. Everyday retail and dining cluster along Knightdale Boulevard (Business U.S. 64).

Small Town, Rapid Growth

Knightdale was incorporated in 1927. For much of the 20th century it remained a small eastern Wake community. A major downtown fire in 1940 destroyed much of the commercial core; the town rebuilt and continued as a modest local center.

The turning point for modern growth came with infrastructure. In the late 1980s, sewer improvements opened large areas for residential development south of Highway 64. Between 1990 and 2000 the population surged, making Knightdale one of the faster-growing towns in North Carolina at the time.

Growth has continued into the 2020s with new subdivisions, multifamily, and master-planned communities in the pipeline. The town's comprehensive planning (KnightdaleNext) aims to manage that growth while expanding parks, greenways, and mixed-use nodes.

Local Tip

If you only visit one place to understand Knightdale's quality of life, go to Knightdale Station Park. It is the clearest expression of the town's investment in family amenities and public space.

Why Locals Love It

Value, newer housing stock, Knightdale Station Park, and reasonable access to Raleigh jobs are the consistent themes. It is not a historic destination downtown in the way Apex or Garner can feel — its strength is practical family living and growth-era amenities.

Local Perspective

Knightdale is a practical growth suburb with one standout public amenity in Station Park. Buyers who prioritize newer homes, value, and family recreation tend to be the best fit — especially if a short east-side Raleigh commute works for their household.

US-64 Corridor & Downtown Investment

The US-64 corridor continues to attract new retail, dining, and service businesses as the population grows. The Knightdale Town Hall and civic campus represent a significant commitment to building a real town center rather than just a bedroom community.
